The Church of Scientology in Hungary organized a very followed conference on the occasion of International Day against Drug Absor

Kingnewswire / Press release / On June 25, 2025, the Foundation for a drugless world organized an awareness conference in the chapel of the Church of Scientology of Budapest.

The objective of this event, which has made a fulfillment room, was to make the public aware of the importance of prevention of drug addiction and to provide practical responses on how to recognize the danger, to talk about it and to act to prevent young people from being victims.

Parents, teachers and family protection specialists carefully listened to professional experiences and knowledge shared by guest speakers. Attila Mikloviczpresident of the Church of Scientology, welcomed participants and briefly explained why the Church considered that it was important to support this conference, emphasizing the relevance of research and inspiration provided by the founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard. He then gave the floor to the host of the event, Szilvia Nemes-Nagywho pointed out:

“The drug problem is not only a social problem, but also a personal concern for many families. According to statistics, the majority of young people in our country face one form or another of drugs before the age of 14. »»

Four speakers, two doctors, a former drug addict and the Hungarian director of the Foundation Drug-free World shared their experiences and knowledge at the conference. Speeches focused on means of effectively preventing drug use, how to communicate effectively with young people and what to say – or not to say – to prevent drug use.

“The drugs first alter your judgment”

Dr. György Lenkeidoctor, spoke of the true nature of drugs and underlined:

“It would be so much better if the young people understood only one thing: the drugs alter the judgment of those who consume it!” The first thing they alter is the ability to distinguish facts. »»

This is what makes drug addiction so vicious. Before young people realize what is happening to them, they have already lost the ability to recognize it. “In reality, drug addicts want something to have an effect on them, so that things no longer happen because of them, but because of the drugs. »»

“In fact, any chemical substance that the body absolutely does not need is a drug,” said the doctor. “It doesn’t matter whether it is natural or artificial, legal or illegal. There are currently more than 600 psychotropic substances, but only 141 of them are officially classified as drugs. And with regard to synthetic drugs, the law is often late on drug manufacturers. »»

He stressed that it is precisely for this reason that the key to prevention is not punishment, but moral judgment, good example and honest dialogue.

One of the most moving moments of the conference was the testimony ofÁkos bodnáran old drug addict. His story revealed with raw honesty his descent into hell for fifteen years, which resulted in a gradual loss of its objectives, its energy and its human relations. Tears in his eyes, he told how he saw a companion to fight for his life in a tragic car accident, but even it was not enough to have him arrested.

“What does the drug brought me?” Some good moments. What did she take away from me? My motivation and my love of life, ”he summed up.

He also explained how the foundation had later helped him find a sober and responsible life.

    How to talk to children?

During the following presentation, Gergő Nemethdirector of the Drug-Free World Foundation in Hungary, gave practical advice on how to talk about drugs to our children. He stressed that the subject should not be tackled with fear, but with confidence, by establishing a relationship and providing specific information. He insisted that it was not necessary to prepare a “great speech”; The main thing is to have a regular, simple and honest dialogue.

What can doctors do, what can we do?

Dr. Péter Lerner spoke of the recognition of drug use and the importance of intervention. “The poison stimulates in small doses, then numb and steep, and in high doses, it kills. The only difference lies in the dose, ”he explained to illustrate the relationship between the dose and the effect.

He described in detail the visible physical symptoms and behavioral changes, then gave practical advice on how to manage acute situations. His most important message: “If you have any doubts about the need to call an ambulance, it is better to call. »»

Regarding treatment, he stressed the importance of vitamin supplements, but insisted: “We must find the reason why a person begins to consume drugs and also deal with this problem. »»

At the end of the conference, the participants were able to ask questions to the stakeholders. The prevention of drug addiction is not only the responsibility of individual organizations or institutions, but a common social responsibility. This event has clearly shown that dialogue and knowledge can save lives, and that each saved life is invaluable.
