Established in the former factory of the Geneva society of physics instruments (SIP) built in 1958, on the edge of the streets of the baths, gourgas and the old Grenadiers, the bac is an element of primary importance of the industrial heritage of the years 1950-1960.
It is the largest contemporary art center in Switzerland and is home to 3 cultural institutions:
- The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Mamco),
- The Center for Contemporary Art Geneva (CAC),
- The Center for Geneva Photography (CPG),
As well as an umbrella institution, the foundation for modern and contemporary art (FAMC), which ensures the governance of shared spaces.
