Necessary and coordinated work
Work on rue de Carouge, carried out in the basement, is necessary to refurbish the infrastructure.
THE pipes (“sewers”) are in poor condition. They will be rebuilt by separating the wastewater from rainwater by the city of Geneva.
THE water, gas and electricity pipes are dilapidated and will be renovated by GIS.
THE tram rails are to be replaced and will be presented to standards by TPG.
The three contracting authorities (City of Geneva, GIS and TPG) work in a concerted and coordinated manner to pool costs and optimize the duration of the site.
Redevelopment of rue de Carouge
The surface development will be upgraded by the city of Geneva, to pedestrianize and vegetate the rue de Carouge. Indeed, work in the basement is the opportunity to offer a new development of this streetwhich will offer a real added value in terms of convivialitycomfort of mild trips and Fight against heat islets.
Preparatory work from March 3, 2025
Interventions for work in the sector of rue de Carouge have already started, without impact on traffic.
- The site installations (huts, barriers, equipment, etc.) are brought and mounted on the Place de Saint-François, rue Jean-Violette as well as punctually on the plain of Plainpalais.
- The tram stop “Pont d’Arve” is temporarily moved by approximately 150 meters, up to rue Pictet-de-Bock.
- Some concrete islets, present on the road, are demolished.
- Site signage is gradually implemented with a view to closing motorized traffic on April 7, 2025.
