Over the years, the city of Geneva has developed its heat wave plan for protect the most vulnerable people, as well as his staff. Many actions are thus implemented each year.
Action plan 2025
To adapt to the reality of global warming and anticipate a heat wave crisis, the Administrative Council has adopted a reinforced action plan which includes 52 concrete measuresto implement in the short and medium term.
This action plan allows in particular to accelerate devices or approaches already initiated. The 2025 heat wave plan plans to continue the 32 actions carried out in 2024 and to integrate a dozen additional actions concerning, in particular:
- Improving the occupation of occupation of passage areas, preaux, play places, parks, wading pools;
- the installation of seasonal shade devices;
- the strengthening of massive plantations of trees in heat islands;
- Bus and tram stop equipment.
Measures adapted to each phase of an episode of heat
The different phases an episode of heat are qualified by the cantonal doctor’s service. Depending on the phase in which we are located, the corresponding measures of the plan are implemented.
